Le Cocu magnifique written by the Belgian playwright, Fernand Crommelynck, and produced at Théâtre de l'Œuvre?, Paris in 1921

A scene from Le Cocu magnifique (first published in 1920) written by the Belgian playwright, Fernand Crommelynck (1885-1970), and produced at  Théâtre de l'Œuvre??, Paris in 1921

"Crommelynck's masterpiece was Le Cocu magnifique (1920), a 'lyrical farce' on the theme of a lover's jealousy. Staged with constructivist sets by Vsevolod Meyerhold — the first of their kind — the theatre play was such a hit that Crommelynck was able to give up acting and devote himself to writing."
